Y’all, my love for Dallas, TX runs deep! I honestly can’t think of a better area to live in with my little family. Finding new things to do is fun and all, but getting to explore things with a toddler makes it ever more fun! Zara and I got the chance to run around the Dallas Arboretum and despite the heat, we had a pretty great time.
To be honest, this isn’t an area I venture to that often, but when I do I always have a blast. The thing I love most about East Dallas is the fact that everyone seems so active! Everyone’s running, walking, riding bikes… I’m like, what is this Dallas? I am truly amazed that there are so many outdoor activities in this part of town. The Arboretum is huge! And even though the weather can be a bit warm, me and Zara had so much fun exploring every nook and cranny of this place!
I’ve gone to The Arboretum many times, but this was the first time I had the pleasure of visiting the Children’s Adventure Garden. This was of course Zara’s favorite! She got to cool off in the fountains, play in the maze and build something neat! And I’m not going to lie, this area was the most fun for me too because it’s so interactive and really gave my toddler plenty to do!
Here are a few tips for parents:
- The Arboretum has Dollar Days going all through August with 1$ entry and 5$ parking, which is a steal! Yes, it will be hot. But I promise it’s totally worth it. My favorite time to visit is in the morning before the heat really sets in.
- Make sure to bring your own water and snacks. Like I said, this place is pretty big, and you don’t want to get stranded on the far end of the property without food or drink. To ensure that you stay hydrated take plenty of water and snacks like granola to help keep your energy up. You will thank me later!
Another fun activity to do in East Dallas is Shakespeare in the Park, which is an outdoor area where you get to watch a Shakespearean play. This has got to be one of my all-time favorite things to do in the summer hands down! I feel like it’s a best kept secret and really try and encourage my fellow Dallasites to explore for themselves. Ever since I was a girl, my mom would take me and Luna so it’s become a summer tradition. They have a variety of plays to watch, and they change it up every season, so make sure you check their schedule online! And if you miss their summer plays, they have shows in the fall too.
In my opinion, the best way to enjoy Shakespeare is with a blanket, pillows, and food! You can bring your own takeout or cheese board with your wine and it makes for super fun date night.
I loved showing you around The Arboretum and giving you a glimpse of Shakespeare in the Park. Be sure to check out what my friends over at Visit Dallas have going on at DallasBIGMoments.com to see the moments they capture while exploring this great city!
